Cote d’Ivoire: cases and investigations

Unexpected HIV infections in children, 1989: Tests of inpatient and outpatient children at two university hospitals in Abidjan during February and March 1989 found 22 HIV-positive children aged 15-60 months. Five (23%) of the 22 mothers tested HIV-negative. All 5 children with HIV-negative mothers had received a blood transfusion. Source: Gayle HD, Gnaore E, Adjorlolo, et al.
